Health Care Coverage...you have got to be kidding!

October 25th, 2016 at 07:43 pm

I am confused! I decided to check out the health care marketplace site. My husband recently took early retirement because they did away with his job. In 2017 our income will be about $25,000. So I see that we would qualify for coverage. I entered my info and it say's I have 38 choices to choose from. Except my doctors are not list in any of them.

Seriously, so how do you get medical insurance?

You can find out what insurances your doctor does accept and go to those companies directly to price their plans.

We got ours through Costco. It was a lot easier to navigate than the government exchanges and every single one of our current doctors was allowed on the silver plan we chose.

My sympathies on navigating that mass. I have health insurance through my employer. From 2007 until 2015, I had both myself and my husband covered through a certain plan. There were other plans to choose from, but it was the best price and had the best options and doctors. Last year, that plan was removed from the selections, so I had to select a different plan. This year, the price for that insurance went from $111.00 every 2 weeks to $163.00. Ack!!! I had to remove my husband from the plan, as he has health coverage elsewhere.

I think Costco good too. But I found that prices were more than the government exchanges. Not that those were of much use. I found i had to travel far for coverage. I also found it pricey.

LAL--Premiums were a bit more, yes, but they cover a lot more if you have to take a lot of prescriptions, which my family does. Once we ran the numbers it came out to be less going through Costco than going through the other plans. Might not be so for people on less medications. They also allowed our doctors which a lot of the gov plans absolutely did not do. In fact the choices were so limited we would have had to go to Seattle to see an in plan doctor, which is a 90 mile trip, so...
